The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspected car thieves and recovered three stolen vehicles in a major breakthrough against vehicle theft in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday. He said the operation was conducted by the Command’s Special Intervention Squad under the guidance of Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s directive for intelligence-led and technology-driven operations.
Haruna disclosed that the first suspect, Aliyu Mamman, 35, a resident of Gusau Local Government Area in Zamfara State, was arrested at Hotoro Ring Road, Kano, on February 13, 2026. Mamman reportedly confessed to stealing several vehicles in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states.
The suspect also implicated five other members of the syndicate — Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani Bala, and Ahmad Mannir — all of whom have been apprehended. The police recovered three stolen vehicles, including a Golf Wagon, an Opel Golf, and a Hijet (Kurkura).

The Commissioner of Police commended the Special Intervention Squad for their professionalism and dedication in effecting the arrests and recovery.
