Nigeria’s Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) by King Charles III of England, recognising his exceptional personal service to the British monarchy.
The appointment was approved in late December 2025, as confirmed by official channels from the Nigerian presidency.
The Royal Victorian Order, founded in 1896, is a dynastic knighthood awarded solely at the discretion of the monarch.
Unlike many honours, it specifically recognises individuals for direct personal service to the Crown.
Edun received the distinction for his extensive work in youth development, particularly through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, which provides programmes that nurture leadership, civic responsibility and personal growth among young people worldwide.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a statement on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, congratulated Edun.
He described the honour as well-deserved and a reflection of Edun’s dedication to public service, noting that it also highlights the government’s focus on youth empowerment and national development.
The award places Edun among a select number of Nigerians recognised with the Royal Victorian Order, emphasising the global significance and rarity of the distinction.
