Kwankwaso To Lead Eid Prayers Amid Kano Political Shift

Former Kano State Governor and Senator, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is scheduled to join the Eid-el-Fitr prayer on Friday at Miller Road in Kano.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Dr. Yusuf Mata, a former Commissioner for Science and Technology in the state, via his verified Facebook account. The prayer service is set to commence at 8:00 a.m.

“Eid prayers will be held by 8:00 a.m. at Miller Road alongside our leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. May Allah accept our ibadat,” Mata wrote.

In his post, Mata also prayed for the acceptance of Ramadan worship and encouraged Muslims to maintain steadfast devotion. “We pray that Allah accepts our acts of worship and grants us peace and blessings,” he added.

The event comes at a time of heightened political activity in Kano, following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among those affected by the political realignment are five commissioners who voluntarily resigned from Yusuf’s administration, reaffirming their loyalty to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Governor Yusuf, previously a close ally of Kwankwaso, rose through the ranks of the Kwankwasiyya Movement before the recent split.

Political observers note that the governor’s defection has created a division within the state’s political structure, with some loyalists staying with Kwankwaso and others supporting Yusuf’s new political direction.

The planned Eid prayer at Miller Road is widely seen as a potential demonstration of unity among Kwankwasiyya loyalists amid the shifting political landscape in Kano.
