Kwankwaso’s Words Misrepresented, No Endorsement Given

The National Publicity Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ladipo Johnson, has clarified that the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, did not endorse any defections from the NNPP.

Speaking on Wednesday, the 14th of January, 2026, during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television, Johnson said that while individuals are free to leave the party, Kwankwaso’s name should not be dragged into such moves.

He explained that the former presidential candidate’s statements were taken out of context in an effort to misrepresent his actual position.

“I think I can say it plainly that he didn’t endorse any move either directly or indirectly and it was unfortunate that we had this breaking news as it were that he had made a U-turn and had endorsed the pending or purported movement by the governor to the ruling All Progressives Congress APC. He didn’t and that is why we pushed back on the issue.

“I’m saying that the words were taken out of context and it was an attempt to deliberately misrepresent his position and that is why I later said that if people do want to leave, they don’t need to drag his name into it.

“They don’t need to tell the masses in Kano that he Kwankwaso is in support of what is going on and they can simply move if they believe they’re moving to greener pastures,” he said.
