The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kwara State.
He was shot dead on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement issued on Sunday in Ilorin, revealed that detectives responded swiftly to the crime scene, recovering five expended 7.62mm shells.
Abubakar’s body has been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital Mortuary.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full-scale probe into the murder, with Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He urged residents to remain calm and provide any useful information that could aid the investigation.
Reports indicate that Abubakar was shot at about 10 p.m. by unidentified gunmen as he arrived home.
His funeral prayer (janazah) was conducted on Sunday at his Zango-Kulende residence before his burial.
The Miyetti Allah Association, through its Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muhammad Kangodabe, confirmed the killing in a statement expressing deep sorrow.
The association prayed for strength for his family and loved ones to bear the tragic loss.
