The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students for examination malpractice.
The affected students comprise 31 Higher National Diploma and 11 National Diploma students from various institutes and programmes.
The expulsion was announced on Monday, September 21, 2026, in a statement by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin.
Esin said the students were found guilty after their cases were considered by the Polytechnic’s Examination Malpractice Committee.
He said their offences breached the Matriculation Oath they took upon admission, adding that the sanctions were approved under the institution’s Students’ Handbook.
The Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number, with 23 students expelled, followed by the Institute of Technology with eight.

The Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Continuing Education recorded four expulsions each, while the Institute of Health Technology and Institute of General Studies had two and one respectively.
The affected students were enrolled in programmes including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Medical Imaging Technology.
Others were studying Microfinance and Entrepreneurship Development, Social Development, Procurement and Supply Chain Management and Industrial and Labour Relations.
The Polytechnic said the expulsions terminated the students’ relationship with the institution and directed them to return any Polytechnic property in their possession.
The items are to be handed over to their respective heads of department or other designated authorities.
The action follows earlier sanctions for examination-related offences. In October 2021, the Polytechnic expelled four students and rusticated six others over impersonation and examination malpractice.
The latest expulsions followed the conclusion of the current cases and approval of the disciplinary recommendations by the appropriate authorities.
