Lagos Assembly Confirms No Abuja Houses In Budget

The Lagos State House of Assembly has dismissed claims that funds were earmarked for the purchase of residential properties for its members in Abuja, describing the reports as unfounded.

The clarification followed widespread rumours suggesting that a portion of public funds had been set aside for lawmakers to acquire houses in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the 27th of January, 2026, the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, alongside the Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, firmly denied the allegation.

According to them, the legislative authority of the Lagos State House of Assembly is limited strictly to Lagos State, stressing that Abuja falls outside its jurisdiction.

They maintained that no such allocation exists in the state’s financial plan, stating emphatically: “There is no provision whatsoever in the 2026 Budget for the purchase of houses in Abuja or anywhere else for members of the Lagos State House of Assembly”.
