Lagos Govt Shuts Nordic Hotel for Wastewater Pollution, Poor Hygiene

The Lagos State Government has shut down the Nordic Hotel on Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, over alleged breaches of environmental standards, including improper waste disposal and unsanitary conditions.

Officials from the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) led the enforcement after receiving several public complaints about the hotel’s poor hygiene practices.

Investigations revealed that the hotel had been releasing untreated wastewater into the drainage network, resulting in offensive odours and widespread environmental pollution in the area.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, the 9th of October, 2025.

He said the action reflected the government’s resolve to uphold a clean and healthy environment, describing the hotel’s action as a “clear breach of environmental laws.”

“Following public complaints and in pursuit of a safer, more sustainable and cleaner Lagos, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office on Thursday, October 9, 2025, sealed the Nordic Hotel for deliberately discharging untreated wastewater into the drainage system, causing offensive odour, public nuisance and posing health risks,” Wahab stated.

Wahab further called on residents and business operators to embrace proper wastewater disposal methods and maintain good hygiene practices to protect public health and promote environmental safety across Lagos State.
