The Lagos High Court in Ikeja has adjourned the hearing of the lawsuit filed by the reinstated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to March 17, 2025.
Obasa, who was initially removed from office, is challenging allegations of fraud, abuse of office, high-handedness, and gross misconduct leveled against him.
The case involves members of the Lagos State House of Assembly and former Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, as respondents.
During Monday’s proceedings, Femi Falana (SAN), representing the House of Assembly, informed Justice Yetunde Pinheiro that Obasa’s legal team, led by Afolabi Fasanu (SAN), had filed new court papers requiring a response.
“The claimant’s counsel served us further affidavits today, and my clients need time to respond,” Falana stated.
Similarly, Tayo Oyetibo (SAN), counsel for Meranda, noted that the fresh court documents contained serious fraud allegations against his client.

He requested an adjournment to prepare a proper response.
Additionally, Falana urged the court to first hear an application for a change of counsel, citing a Court of Appeal decision that prioritizes such applications.
However, Justice Pinheiro ruled that all applications would be heard together on the next adjourned date.
She directed all parties to file and exchange their documents before March 17, stating, “All applications, including those seeking injunctions and those challenging jurisdiction, will be taken at once.”
