Lagos Police Debunk Cult Clash Rumours, Assure Residents Of Safety

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting an impending cult-related clash in parts of the state, describing the claims as false and urging residents to remain calm.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said the command had already taken proactive measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order in areas mentioned in the viral alert.

According to the statement, the circulating message referenced locations such as Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and the Ishaga axis, allegedly in connection with a planned retaliatory attack.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond,” the statement read.

The police noted that personnel and operational assets were swiftly deployed to the identified locations and surrounding communities immediately after the initial report surfaced.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, also directed intensified security operations across the areas, including increased patrols and strategic positioning of officers.

Authorities maintained that the affected areas remain secure, with sufficient security presence to deter any unlawful activities.

Reassuring residents, the command emphasised that there is no cause for alarm and encouraged citizens to go about their daily activities without fear.

“Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order,” the statement said.

The police further cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic, urging the public to rely only on official channels for updates.

Residents were also advised to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to security agencies through designated emergency lines.
