The Lagos State Government is set to roll out four new Intelligent Transport System (ITS) sites to enhance traffic monitoring and curb speed violations across the state.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced that the initiative is in partnership with Huawei Technologies and will complement the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and Traffic Management Solution devices already in place.
“The checkpoint sites are designed to detect overspeeding,” Osiyemi stated. “One is located at Alapere, Ogudu Road, with a speed limit of 80km/h, while the other is installed at Nitel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, with a speed limit of 60km/h. These locations were strategically selected to deter overspeeding, which remains a major cause of road accidents.”
Additionally, the state government has set up e-police sites at Allen Avenue Road Junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road to detect various traffic violations. These sites will monitor infractions such as:
Running red lights
Non-compliance with lane discipline
Illegal U-turns
Reverse driving on highways
The commissioner emphasized that enforcement would take effect immediately. Motorists who violate traffic regulations will receive SMS notifications from the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), detailing their offense and the corresponding fines.

“This system is not designed to be punitive but to promote responsible driving and reduce road accidents. The goal is simple: to save lives, protect property, and create an orderly transportation environment,” Osiyemi added.
The briefing was attended by the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, representatives from Huawei Technologies, and other key stakeholders.
With the deployment of the ITS, the Lagos State Government reaffirms its commitment to improving road safety and ensuring strict compliance with traffic regulations.
