The Lagos State Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences carried out a significant enforcement exercise on Sunday, February 1, 2026, along the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road, impounding around 50 commercial motorcycles and dismantling unauthorised shanties and roadside structures obstructing the corridor.
The operation targeted commercial motorcyclists operating on restricted highways, as well as makeshift settlements that had encroached on public space.
Authorities said the structures posed safety hazards, restricted pedestrian movement, and blocked drainage channels, increasing the risk of accidents and flooding.
Several vehicles were also apprehended for traffic violations and are expected to face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The enforcement drive was captured in videos shared on X by Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, showing task force officers clamping down on traffic offenders and clearing roadside encroachments along the road.

The taskforce said the operation aligns with ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to improve road safety, restore order on major highways, and maintain environmental standards along critical transport corridors.
Residents and motorists were urged to adhere strictly to traffic and environmental regulations, with authorities warning that enforcement activities would continue across the state.
