Four soldiers from Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos, were feared dead early Friday after a suspected drunk driver ploughed into them during their routine morning jog.
Eyewitness who is a resident of the area, said that the Toyota vehicle carrying three young men was speeding when it rammed into the soldiers outside the barracks.
“The incident happened in the early hours of this morning when the soldiers were doing their monthly morning road walk,” she said.
“Four of the soldiers were dead, and many of them were seriously injured.”
She added that the young men attempted to flee but were caught and beaten, while their vehicle was vandalised. “Also, one of the boys was stabbed by the soldiers,” she said.
The situation has caused panic among residents. As of the time of filing this report, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Olabisi Ayeni, and Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, had yet to respond to inquiries.
