The Lagos State Government has announced plans to deploy surveillance drones in partnership with major security agencies as part of fresh measures to improve intelligence gathering and tackle crime across the state.
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mr Ayodele Ogunsan, disclosed this on Monday, the 16th of February, 2026, while addressing journalists to mark his first 100 days in office.
He stated that the proposed initiative is designed to enhance aerial surveillance capacity and ensure quicker responses to emerging security threats.
Ogunsan said the Trust Fund is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Airwing to enable coordinated air patrol and monitoring operations within Lagos.
Under the arrangement, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, will be deployed to expand surveillance reach, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen operational synergy among security agencies.
He emphasised that Lagos, being Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, must continue investing in advanced security systems to safeguard residents, businesses and critical infrastructure.
Reflecting on his time in office, Ogunsan noted that the Trust Fund has increased its funding base through strategic fundraising drives and enhanced stakeholder collaboration.
He revealed that 80 additional operational and patrol vehicles have been rolled out to reinforce security presence and boost rapid response capabilities statewide, with more expected to arrive soon.

He further disclosed that a private benefactor has pledged to construct a permanent headquarters for the agency, while rehabilitation of previously grounded Armoured Personnel Carriers is ongoing to restore them to service.
Looking forward, Ogunsan said the Trust Fund intends to implement comprehensive training programmes for security personnel across the state, with emphasis on professionalism, tactical competence and improved service standards.
He reiterated the agency’s dedication to transparency, accountability, innovation and strategic collaboration, describing them as essential pillars for maintaining safety in Lagos.
“Through collaboration and innovation, we will continue to strengthen security and ensure a safer environment for all residents,” he added.
