Lagos CP Decorates Promoted ASPs, Urges Professionalism

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has formally decorated newly promoted Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), urging them to uphold higher standards of professionalism, discipline and effective service in alignment with the goals of the Nigerian Police Force.

The decoration ceremony took place on Monday, the 16th of February, 2026, at the command headquarters in Ikeja, where Jimoh described the promotion exercise as merit-based, driven by dedication and exemplary service. He reminded the officers that their new rank represents not only recognition for past efforts but also a greater responsibility going forward.

“This advancement reflects your hard work and commitment to duty. I expect you to remain steadfast in serving the police institution and the nation with integrity,” he said.

He also praised the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for approving the elevation of 1,848 inspectors nationwide to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Jimoh assured the force leadership that the promoted officers would be strategically assigned to both operational and administrative departments to enhance efficiency and strengthen service delivery across Lagos State.

He stressed that the new position carries increased expectations, calling on the officers to show strong leadership qualities, maintain discipline, and promote teamwork within the command structure.

“Our collective objective is improved service delivery and enhanced protection of lives and property, especially for the most vulnerable members of society,” he added.

According to the commissioner, the promotions serve as acknowledgment of previous contributions while also demonstrating confidence in the officers’ capacity to advance ongoing policing reforms and professionalism within the state.

Some of the newly decorated ASPs who spoke after the event expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to intensify their commitment to duty.

One officer remarked that the new rank demands greater accountability and vowed to exceed expectations in both field operations and administrative responsibilities.

Others described the promotion as an honour and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the force’s development.

They collectively appreciated the police leadership for the trust placed in them and assured that they would uphold the core values of the Nigerian Police Force while working to strengthen public confidence and security.
