The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has cautioned children, teenagers and young adults against using roller shoes and other wheeled footwear on highways and other roads used by motorists.
The warning was issued on Sunday, September 20, 2026, in a statement by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofeek.
LASTMA said skating alongside vehicles, crossing carriageways or moving through traffic could result in serious crashes and injuries.
It urged parents, guardians, schools and caregivers to restrict skating to designated recreational areas, private compounds and other locations away from vehicular traffic.

The agency also advised skaters to use protective equipment, including helmets, knee pads and elbow pads.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, urged motorists to remain particularly alert in residential areas, estates and school zones, where children could suddenly enter the roadway.
The warning recalls a similar directive issued by the Lagos State Government in November 2013. Then Governor Babatunde Fashola ordered an end to skating on highways and warned that offenders could face arrest and prosecution under the state’s traffic law.
LASTMA urged residents to report crashes, obstructions, breakdowns and other dangerous traffic situations through its toll-free 3367 emergency line.
