LAWMA Cracks Down on Illegal Recyclers at Outer Marina

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its campaign against illegal waste operations in the state, dislodging unauthorized recyclers at Outer Marina by Apongon on Monday, 22 December 2025.

The exercise, carried out by LAWMA’s Project WISE East Team, targeted illegal recycling sites that have long contributed to environmental degradation and blocked major drainage channels in the area.

Officials said the operation was necessary to prevent further public health hazards and maintain the aesthetic appeal of Lagos.

A spokesperson for LAWMAN explained that the dislodgement forms part of the authority’s broader mandate to enforce environmental laws and promote responsible waste management.

“We are committed to ensuring a cleaner, safer Lagos. Illegal recyclers not only pollute the environment but also disrupt lawful waste collection systems,” the spokesperson said.

Project WISE, launched by LAWMA earlier this year, focuses on proactive surveillance, community engagement, and strategic enforcement against unauthorized waste activities across the city.

The East Team’s operation at Outer Marina is one of several planned interventions designed to curb illegal waste practices in commercial and residential areas.

Residents and business owners in Outer Marina welcomed the operation, noting that the presence of illegal recyclers had long posed risks to sanitation and traffic flow.

LAWMA urged members of the public to report illegal recycling activities through its official channels to help sustain a clean environment.

The authority also warned that continued enforcement actions would be taken against individuals and groups found violating Lagos State’s waste management laws.

LAWMA reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Lagos remains clean, healthy, and environmentally compliant.
