Abdulfatai Aiyede, a 53-year-old lecturer, has died unexpectedly after collapsing during a visit to a nursing student’s residence in Minna, prompting an official investigation.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed on Friday, January 30, 2026, that Aiyede had travelled from Bida to see 25-year-old Stella Joseph.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, when Aiyede arrived at her home.
During the visit, he was served a meal, after which he began to convulse and collapsed.
He was rushed immediately to the General Hospital in Minna for medical attention but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Niger State Police Command also confirmed that Stella Joseph has been arrested as part of ongoing investigations into the lecturer’s death .
Aiyede’s body remains at the hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine the precise cause of death.
Police assured the public that further updates will be issued as the investigation progresses.
