Life, Success Depend on God’s Mercy, Adeboye Tells Professionals

As the week begins, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), urges Nigerians, especially lawyers and professionals, to reflect on the role of God’s mercy in sustaining life and achievements.

Speaking at the RCCG national headquarters, Throne of Grace Parish, Ebute-Metta, during the September thanksgiving service themed “Divine Mercy”, Adeboye stressed that being alive is itself proof of God’s mercy.

“The fact that we are still alive today is of the mercy of God. When you consider the various ways a fellow could die, you will know that you are alive not because you are clever but because of the Lord’s mercy,” he said.

He shared a personal story from his university days. Despite preparing thoroughly for a mathematics exam as a tutor, he went blank in the hall.

“I was about to leave when a certain hand kept me seated. Suddenly, the solutions became clear. I answered all eight questions and asked the examiner to mark any five. That was God’s mercy,” Adeboye recalled.

The cleric reminded professionals that God’s mercy is conditional, quoting scripture: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”

“There is trouble for the unmerciful. The result can be destruction without remedy. God’s patience is not endless; there comes a time when He says enough is enough,” he warned.

Pastor Dele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, urged lawyers to uphold fairness and equity in their work.

“If we want justice in this nation, they have a critical role to play,” Balogun said, adding that the church prays for professionals across sectors to serve with the fear of God.
The service also emphasized practical mercy: over 2,000 needy individuals received rice.

“You cannot seek God’s mercy and at the same time engage in kidnapping, corruption, murder, or theft,” Balogun noted.

The event drew top legal figures, including the Chief Judges of Ogun and Kwara states, Justice Ladiran Akintola and Prof. Simisola Akintola, Justice Oluyinka Gbajabiamila, and Senior Advocates Oluwemimo Ogunde, SAN, and Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN.
