The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, has warned that low membership registration among Igbos could jeopardise Peter Obi’s chances of securing the party’s presidential ticket.
Obinna raised the concern over the weekend in Umuahia while speaking at the inauguration of executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy for Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South local government areas.
He stressed that without significant participation in the party’s ongoing online registration exercise, the former Labour Party presidential candidate may struggle to emerge victorious at the ADC primary.
“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President, the question should be how do we deliver Peter Obi,” he said.

Highlighting the disparity in registration figures, Obinna noted that the South-East, particularly Abia State, is lagging behind other regions.
“Even the ADC online registration, Abia is about 400,000 in the chart while Adamawa is about 1 million. If the primary election is conducted today, will Peter Obi win, that is my question,” he added.
He urged party members and supporters across the region to intensify mobilisation efforts, warning that failure to do so could weaken Obi’s chances within the party.
Obinna also called on members of the ADC and allied groups to promote good governance and credible leadership as part of their political engagement.
At the event, COPDEM Chairman in Abia State, Prince Solomon, and House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Ogbonna Abarikwu, also urged Nigerians to reject poor leadership and support democratic ideals.
