The Labour Party has disowned Abayomi Arabambi, saying he is no longer a member and has no authority to act on its behalf in the legal actions concerning Peter Obi’s academic and National Youth Service Corps records.
The party stated this in a statement issued on Monday, September 14, 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa.
Arabambi filed three suits at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the West African Examinations Council, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the National Youth Service Corps, seeking access to official records relating to Obi’s credentials under the Freedom of Information Act.
The suits led to media reports describing Arabambi as an LP chieftain, a description the party rejected.
The LP said its National Executive Council suspended Arabambi and 24 other members on March 18, 2026, over alleged anti-party activities. The party said its National Convention ratified the decision on April 28, 2026, ending the affected members’ membership.
It added that no organ had since reversed the decision.

The party therefore said Arabambi could not have instituted the cases as an LP member or authorized representative.
It warned that presenting him as an LP chieftain or representative was unauthorized and could, prima facie, amount to impersonation.
The party said its lawyers were reviewing the matter and would consider further action, including a possible petition to law enforcement authorities.
However, the LP said its clarification did not constitute a position on the merits of Arabambi’s claims against Obi.
It also noted that Obi is no longer a member of the Labour Party and declined to comment on the pending cases.
The development comes amid renewed scrutiny of Obi’s credentials ahead of the 2027 elections, with the former LP presidential candidate now aligned with the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
The Labour Party said its intervention was solely to clarify Arabambi’s status and ensure that his legal action was not attributed to the party.
