MAAUN Shuts Down Female Hostels over Security, Conduct Concerns

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano has ordered students to immediately vacate two female hostels not operated by the school, citing serious security threats and breaches of university standards.

The hostels Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels had their approvals withdrawn by the university after mounting concerns over immoral activities, poor living conditions, and lack of compliance with operational guidelines.

Dr. Hamza Garba, the Vice President of Campus Life, announced the decision in a statement released on the 11th of May, 2025, explaining that it aligns with the university’s commitment to student welfare and discipline.

“I am directed by the Management to write, inform and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents/students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels,” the statement read.

According to him, the action followed reports of immoral activities, insufficient water and power supply, student violence, unauthorized late-night movements, and the presence of unknown tenants sharing facilities.
