The English champions confirmed the appointment on Monday, June 29, 2026, announcing that the Italian has agreed to a three-year contract that will run until 2029.

Maresca is making a familiar return to the Etihad Stadium after previously serving in the club’s academy setup and later as Guardiola’s assistant during one of City’s most successful periods.

Since leaving Manchester, he has held managerial roles at Leicester City and Chelsea, gaining experience in both the Championship and the Premier League.

Describing his appointment as a career milestone, the 46-year-old said returning to a club he knows well made the decision an easy one.

He commended City’s long-term planning, strong leadership and football culture, saying those qualities have established the club as one of the game’s leading institutions and provide the ideal platform for success.
