Chief Lekan Alabi, veteran journalist, public relations expert and former Chief Press Secretary to four governors of the old Oyo State, is dead.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, died in Lagos on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the age of 76.
His death was confirmed by Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
Born on October 27, 1950, Alabi built a remarkable career spanning journalism, broadcasting, corporate communications and public service.
He began his media journey with the defunct Sketch newspaper before joining the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (WNBC), later known as the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ibadan.

He subsequently joined Odu’a Investment Company Limited, where he served as Public Relations Manager and later rose to the position of Corporate Affairs Manager.
A respected figure in government communication, Alabi served as Chief Press Secretary to four governors of the old Oyo State, earning recognition for his professionalism, deep knowledge of public affairs and expertise in media relations.
Beyond journalism and public service, he was also known as an author, cultural advocate and public commentator whose work contributed to the promotion of Yoruba heritage and history.
His death comes months after he marked his 75th birthday on October 27, 2025, with tributes from leaders across the political, media and traditional sectors celebrating his decades of service and influence.
The late media icon will be buried on Sunday, August 2, 2026, according to Islamic rites.
