Nigerian workers in their hundreds on Wednesday started a protest march to the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
The workers led by their union, the Nigeria Labour Congress and its affiliates staged the protest to register their anger and to demand the withdrawal of a bill that seeks to remove the National Minimum Wage from the exclusive to the concurrent legislative list.
About two weeks ago, the House of Representatives introduced the bill sponsored by Garba Mohammed (APC Kano).
The bill if passed would allow both the federal and state governments to freely negotiate minimum wage with their workers.
But not comfortable with the legislative document, organised kicked against it, arguing that the bill will undermine the working class in the country.
As the protesters marched through Shehu Shagari Way towards the NASS complex, their movement caused serious traffic gridlock forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
