Teachers in Rivers, their children protest five years unpaid salaries

Some teachers in Rivers State on Wednesday took to the streets along with their children to protest five years unpaid salaries.

They are teachers in Primary and Secondary Schools owned by the State-owned tertiary institutions.

According to the protesters the state-owned institution in whose primary and secondary schools they teach are: Rivers State University, the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education and the Ken Saro–Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori.

Over 250 of them marching and lamenting with placards and banners, they claimed no fewer than 10 of their colleagues have died due to the statement government’s refusal to pay them their salaries.

Some civil society organisations marched with them as they lambast the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, wondering how a leader, who recently dashed out N500 million to assist Sokoto State, would choose not to pay teachers their salaries.
