Moove Exits Nigeria After Six Years, Transfers N35bn Fleet To Customers

Lagos-founded mobility company Moove is exiting Nigeria after six years, transferring vehicles worth about N35 billion to eligible customers under its “Thank You Nigeria” initiative.

The company announced the decision on Thursday, saying customers operating eligible Moove-financed vehicles would receive full ownership without further payment. The transfer arrangement took effect on October 1, 2026.

Moove said it would work with affected customers and employees as it winds down its Nigerian operations.

Founded in 2020 by Ladi Delano and Jide Odunsi, the company launched in Lagos with 76 vehicles, providing rental and Drive-to-Own financing for mobility entrepreneurs who struggled to access vehicle funding.

Moove said more than 9,000 customers have used its Nigerian rental and Drive-to-Own products, generating about N57 billion in revenue through Moove-financed vehicles.

The company has since expanded internationally and now operates about 42,000 vehicles across 29 cities globally.

Delano, Moove’s co-founder, co-CEO and Advisory Board Chairman, said Nigeria would remain central to the company’s history, describing the exit as an emotional moment and acknowledging the customers, employees and partners who helped build the business.

As part of the initiative, all Moove staff members will receive a free car.

The exit follows Uber’s withdrawal from Nigeria on September 2, 2026, after 12 years. Moove’s Nigerian business had been closely linked to the ride-hailing ecosystem, including vehicle financing for drivers, but the company has not said Uber’s departure prompted its decision.

Moove said it would continue working with affected stakeholders until the transition is completed.
