The breakthrough came in the 70th minute when Kylian Mbappé converted a penalty after Désiré Doué was brought down inside the penalty area.

Mbappé calmly slotted the spot-kick past the goalkeeper to send Les Bleus into the next round.

The goal also saw the French captain draw level with Lionel Messi in the race for the tournament’s Golden Boot, with both players now having scored seven goals each.
