MTN Confirms Network Outage Across Parts of Five Nigerian States

MTN Nigeria has confirmed a network outage affecting parts of five states across the country, leaving some subscribers experiencing disruptions to voice calls, mobile data and other network services.

The telecommunications company disclosed the development on Thursday, October 8, 2026, in a network outage alert issued to customers.

According to MTN, the affected areas include parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Delta State.

The company said its services may be temporarily unavailable in the affected locations as a result of the network challenges.

“We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result,” MTN said in its alert.

The telecommunications giant added that its engineers were already working to restore the affected services

“Our engineers are working to restore services as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the company said.

The outage has affected subscribers’ ability to make or receive calls and access mobile internet services in some of the affected locations.

MTN, however, did not disclose the specific cause of the latest disruption or provide a definite timeline for the full restoration of services.

The latest incident comes amid continuing concerns over telecommunications service quality in Nigeria, with network disruptions previously linked to issues including fibre cuts and power outages.

MTN is also currently carrying out a separate compensation exercise for eligible subscribers affected by service disruptions recorded between February and April 2026, following regulatory directives on quality of service.

Subscribers in the affected areas are expected to await further updates from the company as its technical teams work to restore normal network operations.
