TCN Schedules Katampe Substation Maintenance, Announces Seven-Hour Power Outage In Abuja

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Abuja Region, has announced a planned preventive maintenance exercise at the Katampe 132/33 Kilovolt (kV) Transmission Substation, which will result in a temporary power outage in parts of the Federal Capital Territory on Saturday.

The company’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday.

According to the statement, the maintenance exercise will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to enable TCN’s maintenance crew carry out preventive maintenance on the 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), its auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear at the substation.

Mbah explained that the scheduled maintenance is part of TCN’s routine efforts to ensure the continued reliability and efficient operation of transmission infrastructure.

She said the exercise would temporarily affect power supply to some areas, as the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to receive bulk electricity from the transmission station for distribution during the maintenance period.

The affected areas include Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, and surrounding communities.

The TCN spokesperson apologised for the inconvenience the planned outage may cause residents and businesses in the affected locations, assuring customers that the maintenance is necessary to improve the reliability and performance of the transmission network.

She stressed that regular preventive maintenance remains critical to ensuring optimal performance of power equipment and sustaining efficient electricity supply across the transmission grid.

TCN urged customers in the affected areas to bear with the temporary disruption as efforts continue to strengthen the nation’s power infrastructure.
