Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ayodeji Balogun, fondly called Wizkid, has won the award for the Best African Act in this year’s edition of the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA).
The father of three beat the likes of Tems, Diamond Platnumz, Amaarae, and Focalistic in the tightly-contested category.
MTV base in a message post congratulating Wizkid via its Instagram handle wrote: “HUGE congratulations to BIG WIZ @wizkidayo for winning Best African Act! From Lagos to the world.”
The singer is currently enjoying recognition from all over the world for his hit song ‘Essence’ where he featured another Nigerian singer Tems.
‘Essence’ which is one of the songs in his ‘Made In Lagos’ album has however been trending on worldwide music charts all year.
Also, the singer is expected to release his next album soon as he continues his world tour.
