MultiChoice Ends Showmax Subscriptions, Moves Content To DStv Stream

MultiChoice will end standalone Showmax subscriptions on April 1, 2026, ahead of the platform’s full shutdown on April 30, 2026, as content moves to DStv Stream.

Subscribers will be automatically migrated to the Compact package on DStv Stream and can continue accessing content at no extra cost until May 31, 2026.

Kemi Omotosho, chief executive officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, said the move aligns with changing viewing habits.

“This brings together live television and on-demand entertainment on a single platform designed for how audiences watch today,” she said.

Since its launch in 2015, Showmax has been a key driver of African storytelling, producing series that earned local and international recognition.

Hits like Wura, Flawsome, Cheta M, and The Real Housewives of Lagos redefined African TV, while co-productions such as Spinners with Canal+ demonstrated the global appeal of African content.

Omotosho reaffirmed MultiChoice’s ongoing commitment to African stories.

On DStv Stream, a dedicated Showmax section will feature top titles including Princess on a Hill, Under the Influence, The Wife (South Africa), and Single Kiasi (Kenya).

Subscribers across Compact, Compact Plus, and Premium packages, whether satellite or streaming-only, will also access over 100 live channels and thousands of hours of on-demand content.

Through SuperSport, major competitions including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, La Liga, and Serie A will be available.

The platform supports smart TVs, laptops, and mobile devices, with pause-and-rewind, offline downloads, and personalized recommendations.
