Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has assured residents that security agencies are working to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the recurring attacks across the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday during the swearing-in of newly appointed special advisers and honorary special advisers at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
Mutfwang expressed concern over the latest violence in Gero community, Jos South Local Government Area, where seven people were killed in an attack on Monday night.
“Let me use this occasion to sadly inform you that we had another attack yesterday. Sadly, this happened not too far away from the city, in Gero, behind Gero settlement, and it led to quite a number of casualties,” he said.
Following the incident, the governor urged residents to remain vigilant and provide security operatives with timely and reliable intelligence to help prevent further bloodshed.
“We continue to encourage communities that we must increase our vigilance. The security forces cannot be everywhere; they can only cover some places. When they get the appropriate information, they will react. But sometimes the reaction comes late because, by the time the information gets to them, it is impossible to have saved the situation,” Mutfwang stated.

He expressed confidence that those responsible for the Gero attack would be arrested, disclosing that investigators had recovered evidence they were pursuing in connection with the incident.
“By the grace of God, we will continue to do our best to apprehend the perpetrators. This particular attack left some bits of evidence that we are trailing,” he said.
The governor also provided an update on the prosecution of suspects linked to previous attacks, particularly those recorded in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area.
“By the grace of God, the leader of that attack is in our net, and we are continuing to put people on trial. We are going to continue to put people on trial. The security agencies in recent months have been turning the heat on these criminal elements,” he added.
Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s resolve to collaborate with security agencies and local communities to improve intelligence gathering, curb further attacks and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
