NAFDAC Destroys ₦8bn Worth Of Fake, Banned Products In North-Central

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit, adulterated, expired and prohibited products valued at over ₦8 billion across Nigeria’s North-Central region.

The exercise took place in Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, as part of efforts to keep unsafe goods out of the market.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the agency’s North-Central Coordinator, Joseph Edor, said the products were seized from factories, markets, shops and motor parks across the region.

Prohibited alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and containers below 200 millilitres accounted for a significant share of the seized goods.

Adeyeye said restrictions on such packaging were intended to curb young people’s access to alcohol, warning that early consumption could impair brain development, damage vital organs and affect academic performance.

Other products destroyed included expired and counterfeit food items, medicines and cosmetics that failed to meet safety and quality standards.

She commended security agencies and other partners for supporting enforcement operations, urging traders to comply with regulatory requirements or face sanctions.

The exercise follows a similar operation in Lafia on December 11, 2025, when NAFDAC destroyed regulated products worth more than ₦5 billion seized across Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.

The successive operations highlight the agency’s efforts to curb the circulation of unsafe products and protect public health.
