NAFDAC Recalls Male Enhancement Supplement Over Safety Concerns

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has announced the recall of all batches of the male enhancement dietary supplement known as MR.7 SUPER 700000 capsules, warning Nigerians against consuming the product due to potential health risks.

In a public notice shared on Monday via its official X platform, the regulatory agency explained that the recall followed laboratory findings by the United States Food and Drug Administration, which revealed that the product contains undeclared active pharmaceutical ingredients.

According to the agency, the capsules were found to contain sildenafil and tadalafil, both of which are phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors commonly used in approved medications for treating erectile dysfunction.

NAFDAC stated that the presence of these substances in the supplement makes the product an unapproved drug because its safety and effectiveness have not been verified under the country’s regulatory standards.

The agency further warned that products containing sildenafil or tadalafil cannot legally be marketed as dietary supplements and may pose serious health risks to consumers.

Health experts also cautioned that the undeclared ingredients could interact dangerously with nitrates found in certain prescription medications, such as nitroglycerin, potentially leading to a severe and life-threatening drop in blood pressure.

NAFDAC noted that individuals suffering from conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, or heart disease—particularly those taking nitrate-based medications—are at a higher risk of adverse reactions.

The agency has therefore urged members of the public to immediately stop using or selling MR.7 SUPER 700000 capsules and to return any available stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Consumers were also encouraged to report any suspected adverse reactions or compromised medical products through the agency’s reporting channels, including the Med-safety application and official email platforms.

NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to protecting public health through continuous monitoring and regulation of medicines, medical devices and other products circulating in the Nigerian market.
