NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Herbal Factory In Lagos, Arrests Manager

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal herbal product manufacturing facility in Agege, Lagos State, following a report alleging the use of falsified registration numbers on herbal products.

The agency said the investigation followed a report on October 10, 2026, concerning herbal products bearing fraudulent NAFDAC registration numbers.

According to NAFDAC, an investigative team conducted surveillance in response to the report and subsequently discovered three variants of Asheitu Adams Bitters bearing the registration number A7-1827L.

The agency disclosed this in a statement shared on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

It was gathered that verification through the agency’s Automated Product Administration and Monitoring System (NAPAMS) portal revealed that the registration number actually belongs to Greentol Cough Syrup.

The discovery indicated that the registration number had allegedly been fraudulently used on the herbal products, raising concerns over their regulatory status.

NAFDAC said the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer was absent during the operation, while the company manager was arrested for further interrogation.

The agency urged members of the public to report suspected illegal manufacturing activities and other regulatory violations to help protect consumers.

The agency advised members of the public to report any fake products by calling 0800-1-623322 or 0700-1-623322, or send reports by email to [reforms@nafdac.gov.ng](mailto:reforms@nafdac.gov.ng).
