Senator Godiya Akwashiki, representing Nasarawa North, has died at 52 while receiving medical treatment in India.
He passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, after a prolonged illness, family sources confirmed.
Akwashiki was first elected to the Nigerian Senate in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, becoming the only senator from Nasarawa North to secure consecutive terms since the district’s creation.
He served under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and was widely recognized for his grassroots engagement and focus on constituency development.
Before joining the Senate, he served multiple terms in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, rising to Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker.
He championed initiatives in education, youth empowerment, rural development, and infrastructure, earning a reputation as a committed and visible legislator.

Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Akwashiki maintained close ties with his constituents and remained active in community development throughout his career.
Political leaders and residents of Nasarawa State described his death as a significant loss to both the state and the National Assembly.
Funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
