Palace Siege in Kwara: Monarch, Son Taken, Queen Shot

Gunmen attacked the palace of a traditional ruler in Kwara State on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, abducting the monarch and one of his sons while shooting the queen.

The assault occurred late in the evening at the palace in Aafin community, Ile-Ere, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses said armed men forced entry, firing shots as residents tried to secure the palace.

The monarch was taken during the invasion, and his son, discovered hiding inside the palace, was also seized.

The queen was shot in the arm but managed to escape and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Several family members and visitors were present during the attack.

Local vigilantes on night duty were reportedly unable to repel the heavily armed gunmen.

Security agencies have yet to issue a statement, and the whereabouts of the abducted monarch and his son remain unknown.

The attack has heightened fear among residents, underscoring growing insecurity in the area.
