The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has formally declared her intention to seek re-election for a second term, setting the stage for early political mobilisation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the district.
Her declaration was made on Monday during a Kogi Central PDP stakeholders’ meeting, signalling the beginning of intensified political activities ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko, who noted that the meeting brought together party leaders, supporters, and key stakeholders to deliberate on the future of the PDP in the senatorial district.
Addressing the gathering, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her decision to re-contest followed months of consultations and sustained calls from constituents across the five local government areas in Kogi Central.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she declared to loud applause from party faithful.
Her declaration comes amid what insiders describe as growing grassroots support, with endorsements from community leaders and party stakeholders over the past four months, suggesting a consolidation of her political base.

The senator also used the platform to call for unity within the Peoples Democratic Party, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.
In his remarks, the PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman, Anthony Akuvada, commended the senator’s performance in office, describing her as a transformational leader who has redefined representation in the district.
“Her performance in office has been nothing short of exemplary, from infrastructural development to human capital empowerment,” Akuvada stated, adding that her accessibility and engagement with constituents have strengthened party unity.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first term has been marked by interventions in education, youth and women empowerment, as well as advocacy for infrastructure development—efforts that have broadened her appeal across party lines.
She also acknowledged the support of her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, Alema of Warri Kingdom, describing him as a pillar of strength throughout her political journey.
With her re-election bid now officially underway, political observers expect attention to shift to intra-party dynamics and the response of opposition forces, as the race for Kogi Central gradually takes shape.
