The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced that all correctional facilities across the country are now designated as “Red Zones” in preparation for the nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, the 20th of October, 2025, demanding the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement released on Sunday, the 19th of October, by its Public Relations Officer, Umar Abubakar, the NCoS emphasized that correctional centres are restricted zones and advised the public to stay away to prevent any form of disturbance or security breach.
“The Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that all correctional centres nationwide are designated as no-protest zones. These facilities are highly restricted areas, and any attempt to breach security around them will not be tolerated,” the statement read in part.

Abubakar called on citizens to act responsibly and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to sustain peace and public order throughout the protest period. He further noted that adhering to security restrictions around correctional centres would help prevent unnecessary confrontations with authorities.
The announcement follows increased security presence in several states as preparations continue for the pro-Kanu demonstrations organized by groups pushing for the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader.
