A support group affiliated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress has ridiculed the prolonged leadership crises rocking the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress, amid reports of planned defections by major opposition figures to the party.
In a viral image circulated on Saturday by the group’s support page, a man dressed in blue agbada attire and a fedora—symbolising the NDC—was depicted extending a lifebuoy to a drowning figure wearing a green shirt labelled “Democracy.”
Surrounding the figure were sharks carrying inscriptions such as “No Light,” “Poor Educational System,” and “Insecurity.”
The image also featured a blue boat branded “Service to the People” and bearing the NDC logo, with smiling passengers onboard, apparently portraying the party as a stable political alternative amid the turbulence within rival opposition parties.
The accompanying caption read: “We pray against any spirit of Abure, Nafiu, Apapa and Arabambi. We bind, cast and rebuke you.”
The post comes at a time when opposition parties continue to struggle with internal disputes that have complicated coalition efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Labour Party has remained divided by a prolonged leadership tussle involving Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa, while Abayomi Arabambi has also been linked to the ongoing internal conflict.
Despite interventions by the courts, including rulings from the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court, the party has struggled to resolve disputes over leadership legitimacy, tenure, and control of party structures established during the 2023 presidential election.
The divisions have contributed to fragmentation within the party’s structures, including among members of its labour wing and supporters popularly known as the Obidient movement.
Earlier this week, the Labour Party elected Nenadi Usman as substantive national chairperson during its convention held in Umuahia, Abia State.
The ADC has also faced its own internal disputes involving competing factions and leadership claims tied to figures such as former Senate President David Mark and Nafiu Bala.

Recent court rulings returning aspects of the party’s leadership dispute to lower courts have further intensified uncertainty surrounding the ADC’s readiness for the next election cycle.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are preparing to defect to the NDC in the coming days.
According to the reports, stakeholders across Kano State reportedly endorsed the planned move during a meeting held at Kwankwaso’s residence, while negotiations with the NDC were said to be nearing completion.
Supporters of both politicians had earlier launched the “OK Movement” as a platform aimed at fostering collaboration ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC, associated with political figures including former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, has continued to present itself as a reform-oriented platform built around its “Service to the People” slogan, positioning itself as a stable alternative to opposition parties currently facing internal turmoil.
