Ndigbo committed to Nigerian Project —Ohanaeze as Buhari visits Imo

The leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, reaffirmed the Igbo people’s dedication to the Nigerian cause on Tuesday.

Igbo people, according to the apex body, demand justice and fairness as well as a platform where they may make their fair share of contributions to Nigeria’s growth.

“I wish to reiterate and speak on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide both at home and in the diaspora that our people are committed to the Nigerian project. That we desire a country that provides a platform and an opportunity to contribute our utmost best to the growth of our fatherland.

“We seek justice, equity, fairness, and going by our antecedents, we are in every part of Nigeria and therefore claim to be the most federating of all Nigerian,” President Muhammadu Buhari was informed by Prof. George Obiozor, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on Tuesday during a visit to Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

The 36 km dual carriageway of the Owerri-Orlu route in Imo was earlier opened by Buhari. Buhari then had a meeting with South-East leaders. Other South East governors, though, were noticeably missing.

Obiozor’s remarks came at a time when some Igbos want the South-East geopolitical zone to secede from the Nigerian State. Nnamdi Kanu, of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, was one of the leaders of the secession movement and is currently in court on terrorism-related charges.
