The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 65-year-old Ramata Bola Adeyemo over suspected drug trafficking.
According to a statement from NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Adeyemo, a grandmother, was apprehended on December 6 at Odunfa Street, Lagos Island LGA, Lagos.
The agency recovered 20.6 litres of codeine-based syrup from her at the time of the arrest.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested Egwu Phillip Inya, who was allegedly attempting to collect 7.40 kg of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, hidden in three pressure machines.
Inya, a self-claimed building engineer, was caught on December 2 at the Okeyson motor park in Enugu after the shipment, which had arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on November 29, was rerouted.
NDLEA operatives traced the consignment to Enugu, where Inya was arrested during a follow-up operation.
In another major seizure, NDLEA agents intercepted a Siena vehicle in Adamawa on December 6, recovering 511,000 tramadol pills.
The vehicle’s occupants fled after noticing the operatives, abandoning the vehicle along with the drug-filled consignment.
Further investigations revealed a significant drug bust in Ekiti state.
Two suspects, Olanrewaju Alale (48) and Babatunde Kayode Ijadahun (55), were arrested with 1,323 kilograms of cannabis in a bus traveling from Ondo state to the North for distribution.
