NDLEA Destroys 10,000kg of Cannabis, 74 Hectares of Farmland in Ondo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State has wiped out more than 10,143 kilograms of cannabis and cleared 74 hectares of farmland used for cultivating the illegal crop over the past ten months.

State Commander Nanzing Sallah made this known in Akure on Monday, October 20, 2025, while briefing journalists on the agency’s sustained campaign against drug cultivation and trafficking in the state.

Sallah said the destruction formed part of a coordinated national strategy aimed at curbing the production and supply of cannabis, which remains prevalent across forest zones in Ondo.

“Our operations in the last ten months have led to the destruction of over 10,143 kilograms of cannabis and 74 hectares of farms where the plants were grown,” he said.

He credited the success of the operation to stronger collaboration among security agencies, community leaders, and NDLEA operatives, noting that such partnerships have been key in dismantling several illicit farms and storage sites.

Ondo, long identified as one of Nigeria’s major cannabis-producing states, has remained a major focus of NDLEA’s eradication drive.

The latest figures reflect the agency’s continuing clampdown, coming after earlier operations that saw dozens of hectares of farmland and tonnes of cannabis destroyed in 2024.

Sallah appealed to residents to support the agency’s efforts by providing timely information on suspicious drug-related activities and reaffirmed NDLEA’s resolve to sustain the war against narcotics in the state.
