NDLEA Intercepts Drug Couriers, Seizes 627kg of Skunk

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recorded major breakthroughs in a coordinated nationwide operation that led to multiple arrests and the seizure of large consignments of illicit drugs across several states.

Among those arrested was a suspected drug courier who excreted 95 wraps of Class A narcotics while under medical observation.

The suspect, who claimed to be a clothing and auto spare parts dealer in Lagos, told investigators he ventured into drug trafficking to raise funds to complete a residential building project in his hometown, Iwollo, Enugu State.

According to NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the arrest formed part of a broader enforcement drive that disrupted trafficking networks in Abuja, Taraba, Oyo, Imo, Ondo and other states.

In the Federal Capital Territory, operatives uncovered a makeshift warehouse at Fums Plaza in Kubwa, where 627.7 kilogrammes of skunk — a potent strain of cannabis — were recovered.

The agency also foiled attempts to transport methamphetamine hidden inside MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna.

Four suspects — Ebube Okeke, Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze and Friday Michael — were linked to the consignments. Babafemi explained that Okeke was arrested during a follow-up operation in Zuba, FCT, after investigators traced one parcel containing 173 grams of methamphetamine to him.

The remaining three suspects were apprehended the following day in Kaduna while attempting to retrieve another package weighing 28 grams.

Elsewhere, NDLEA officers in Taraba intercepted a suspect conveying methamphetamine concealed in yoghurt packs, while in Oyo State, authorities dismantled a synthetic cannabis operation run by a suspected drug kingpin.

In Ibadan, officers arrested Adeniyi Adeola, also known as “Prince,” at Foko in Agbeni Market, recovering over 10,000 ampoules of pentazocine injections and more than 117,000 tramadol capsules from his vehicle.

Another raid in Badeku led to the arrest of Jimoh Nurudeen, 40, alleged to be operating a facility producing “Colorado,” a synthetic cannabis, alongside his accomplice Ogundipe Yusuf, 27.

Items recovered included precursor chemicals, skunk, production equipment, ₦7.4 million in cash, and two luxury vehicles.

Further seizures were recorded in Imo and Ondo states. In Imo, a couple — Izuchukwu Azubuike, 37, and Ifunaya Mmadueke, 32 — were arrested with 203 kilogrammes of skunk in Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area. In Ondo, operatives recovered an additional 420 kilogrammes of skunk hidden in a bush at Ikun Akoko.

Babafemi said substantial quantities of tramadol, cannabis and other prohibited substances were also confiscated in operations across Kwara, Lagos and Enugu states, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks nationwide.
