The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Sunday, June 14, 2026, announced the arrest of a Brazil-based businessman, Abugu Oliver Ikechukwu, for allegedly smuggling 6.10 kilograms of liquid cocaine into Nigeria concealed in clothing.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, June 11, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, after arriving from São Paulo, Brazil, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi said operatives discovered 14 shirts and towels impregnated with liquid cocaine in the suspect’s luggage. The items had been dried and ironed to conceal the substance.

The suspect, who reportedly runs an African restaurant in Brazil and has lived there for over 14 years, told investigators he came to Nigeria to visit his wife and buy food supplies for his business.
The agency also announced the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers in separate operations. Chidimma Sunday, 60, was caught with 1.8 kilograms of skunk in Isialangwa North Local Government Area of Abia State on June 10, while Abubakar Usman, 28, was arrested in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with skunk, methamphetamine, tramadol, swinol and diazepam. Both are persons living with disabilities.
NDLEA further reported major seizures nationwide, including 304 kilograms of skunk in Kwara State, 1,121.5 kilograms of cannabis recovered from a warehouse in Taraba State and 1,102 kilograms of Ghana Loud seized near Alaba International Market in Lagos.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations and urged them to sustain the agency’s momentum in disrupting drug trafficking networks across the country.
