Ned Nwoko Counters Regina Daniels’ Drug Test, Insists Accountability Goes Beyond Abstinence

Senator Ned Nwoko has publicly responded to his ex-wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, following her release of a drug test result that showed she tested negative for illicit substances, escalating an already heated public dispute between the former couple.

In a lengthy statement issued on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Nwoko rejected interpretations that the negative drug test cleared Daniels of past substance use, arguing that temporary abstinence should not be confused with long-term sobriety or accountability. The statement, signed by the “Senator Ned Nwoko Communication Team,” described the actress’s publicised test as “misleading and disingenuous” when presented as proof that no prior drug use had occurred.

Daniels had earlier shared the negative test result on Instagram, saying she undertook the screening to counter claims allegedly made by Nwoko that she was a drug addict and unfit to be a mother. Her post drew widespread public sympathy and support, with many commending her for addressing the allegations directly.

However, Nwoko’s statement maintained that earlier assessments, which he said detected drug and alcohol use, were conducted by “two independent, reputable centres in Nigeria and South Africa” and were formally documented. He added that these reports would be presented in court if required, with the laboratories subpoenaed to defend their findings.

The senator also referenced MDMA, commonly known as Molly, stressing that it remains a dangerous drug regardless of how casually it is described. He argued that a single drug test taken at a time of one’s choosing does not invalidate prior medical evaluations nor negate the need for professional intervention.

Addressing the family dimension of the dispute, Nwoko said he had previously explored private and discreet rehabilitation options for Daniels, following a court order that reportedly recommended supervised therapy. He insisted that the matter was never intended for public spectacle and that his actions were guided by concern for her wellbeing and that of their children.

“It is not time for drama,” the statement read, adding that genuine accountability requires long-term professional support rather than social media declarations.

The public exchange has sparked renewed debate about privacy, accountability, and the role of social media in resolving deeply personal disputes, with legal and reputational implications now firmly in the spotlight.
