The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has started disbursing June and July upkeep allowances to eligible students nationwide, bringing relief after weeks of complaints over delayed payments.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) confirmed the development on Friday, while a number of beneficiaries also shared screenshots of their payment alerts on X as evidence that the disbursement process had begun.
In a statement, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, said the payments were now underway and assured students that every outstanding allowance would be settled.
“The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.
As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind,” he said.
Babatunde also appealed to students who had not yet received their allowances to remain calm, noting that the payments were being processed in phases.

“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches.
We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.
“Aluta Continua!” the statement added.
The latest disbursement follows weeks of concerns raised by students over delays in receiving their monthly upkeep allowances under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
Even before the official confirmation, several beneficiaries had taken to X to post screenshots of credit alerts, indicating they had received their June and July payments.
The upkeep allowance forms part of the NELFUND student loan programme, which offers eligible students in tertiary institutions monthly financial support alongside tuition fees paid directly to their schools.
