NFF Backs New Super Eagles Coach Chelle, Calls for National Support

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has expressed confidence in the newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, describing him as the man capable of leading Nigeria’s national team to new heights.

Speaking on Sunday, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau acknowledged the passionate reactions of Nigerians to Chelle’s appointment but appealed for unity and support for the coach.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about football, which is why there have been different reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau stated.

“However, the NFF appeals to Nigerians to come together and support him, as we believe he has the qualities to achieve success with the Super Eagles.”

Gusau further reassured Nigerians that the Federation would provide all the necessary resources and support to ensure Chelle’s success.

Chelle faces an immediate challenge as he leads the Super Eagles B team at the upcoming African Nations Championship in East Africa next month. Following that, attention will shift to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where the Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda away and Zimbabwe at home in March.

The NFF noted that Chelle’s extensive experience makes him well-suited for the role. The Malian tactician previously guided Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

Before accepting the Super Eagles job, Chelle managed Algerian club MC Oran, steering the team to notable achievements.

The NFF called on Nigerians to rally behind Chelle as he embarks on his journey to rebuild the Super Eagles.
