Nigeria Urges Caution For Citizens In Iran Amid Military Uncertainty

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a security advisory for its nationals in Iran and across neighbouring Gulf states, citing rising regional military tensions and an increasingly unpredictable security environment.

In a statement released Saturday, February 28, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nigerians to exercise heightened vigilance, avoid non-essential movement, and steer clear of areas deemed strategic or sensitive, including military and government installations.

The advisory follows reports of recent military exchanges and retaliatory operations in parts of the Middle East, developments that have intensified concerns about potential escalation and collateral security risks for foreign nationals.

Nigerian authorities emphasised the importance of strict compliance with local security directives and discouraged attendance at large gatherings or demonstrations that could expose citizens to heightened danger.

Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Tehran and across the Gulf have been placed on high alert to provide consular assistance and facilitate communication with citizens.

Officials advised Nigerians abroad to maintain regular contact with their nearest embassy or consulate and to monitor updates from credible sources as the security situation evolves.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that it continues to track regional developments closely and will issue further guidance as necessary.

Citizens in affected areas were urged to prioritize personal safety and remain informed through official channels.
